City calls out Seniors for Portland Plan input

We received notice from Eden Dabbs at the Bureau of Planning and and Sustainability about next week’s Portland Plan Senior Day. It follows. In this round of meetings, the City especially wants to hear from seniors, elders, their friends and families to help shape Portland’s future

“The senior community, family and friends are invited to the Portland Plan Senior Day discussion. The event is co-sponsored by Elders in Action, Multnomah County Aging and Disability Services, Native American Youth and Family Center and Hollywood Senior Center. Deborah Stein of the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will lead the dialogue, and door prizes, ice cream and beverages will be provided!

Timbers donate $50,000 towards Parkrose soccer center

A press release from Portland Parks & Recreation follows:

“At a special Parkrose High School event this morning, Portland Timbers owner and president Merritt Paulson presented a check for $50,000 on behalf of the Major League Soccer team to the Parkrose School District, a contribution towards the future Parkrose Regional Soccer Center.

“In addition to Paulson, others at the presentation included Portland City Commissioners Nick Fish and Amanda Fritz, and Parkrose School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Fischer Gray, who accepted the donation on behalf of the school district.

Elmer’s Restaurants Offers Official Rose Meal

East County mixed martial arts fighters perform Friday at Rose Garden

A Media Advisory from Strikeforce, a mixed martial arts cage fighting promotion company, about their Challengers Event Friday at the Rose Garden follows. Rivaling boxing, mixed martial arts, with almost no help from the mainstream media, has become an incredibly popular phenomena.

East Portland Spring clean-up Saturday

An east Portland multi-neighborhood bulky waste Spring clean-up is being held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — earlier if dumpsters fill up — in TriMet’s Park & Ride at Southeast 122nd Ave. and E. Burnside St. in outer east Portland. Enter on Southeast Ash St.

They will welcome appliances, furniture, metal and tires.
Because of Metro’s new rules this year, they can’t accept yard debris, electronics (televisions and monitors), food, animal, Commercial or hazardous waste.

Suggested Donations are $10 per passenger car load; $20 per truck load. Tires: $2 off rim, $5 on rim — limit five.

Identity theft cases lead to east Portland man’s arrest

A news release from the City follows regarding the arrest of a “subject” apparently involved in an identity theft ring centered in a house on Northeast 112th Ave. and Weidler Street in east Portland.

“On 05-12-10, at about 1800 hours, officers and a detective from the Sandy Police Department, as well as a Canby Police Detective, contacted a suspect in a large number of Identity Theft cases. They contacted the suspect at his home, in the 11200 block of NE Weidler St. in Portland.

PP&R teen programs spared from budget cuts

We received an e-mail from Portland Parks & Recreation’s Public Information Officer Beth Sorensen regarding non- budget cuts to PP&R programs for teens. It follows.

“Portland Mayor Sam Adams released his Proposed Budget for FY 2010-2011 and, while Portland Parks & Recreation took across the board reductions required of all General Fund bureaus, the Mayor restored funding for two important programs for children and teens that were facing potential elimination this year.
