Kids Company Northwest performs free family holiday event at DeWhitt

To celebrate the season and entertain shoppers at DeWhitt Appliance, a free, holiday production titled “A Storybook Christmas” is set for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.

DeWhitt Appliance, located at Northeast 122nd Avenue and Airport Way, will host Kids Company Northwest, a performing troupe of students of the Northwest Childrens Theater and School for the event. The lighthearted, 45-minute live musical production is beautifully costumed and fun for the whole family.

The troupe has been taking original musical shows out into the community for 15 years, and is comprised of talented kids ages 9 to 14 who love to act, sing and dance; they come together from all over the greater Portland area and dedicate their December to performing.

Improvements to East Portland’s 82nd Avenue to be outlined

The city of Portland Office of Transportation is in the final stages of developing what it’s calling the “82nd Avenue of Roses High Crash Corridor Transportation Safety Action Plan.” Three open houses set within the next month will outline the plan’s proposed safety improvements.

Basically, the improvements will include changes in traffic engineering, public education and bolstering safety tools. They include several possible options, including new corner sidewalk curb ramps, pedestrian median refuge islands, constructing sidewalks where they don’t currently exist, and studying and implementing treatment for several high-crash intersections.

Bungalow Rose hosts holiday open house

The Bungalow Rose Floral & Gift Shop is hosting an open house Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, at the shop, 7545 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Ample parking is available.

Debbie Mannings, owner and operator of The Bungalow Rose Floral & Gift Shop, invites all Memo readers to her shop to celebrate the holiday season.

There will be the smell of cinnamon in the air as carolers sing favorite classics and themed Christmas trees are loaded with discounted Christmas ornaments.

There will be fresh Noble Fir Christmas trees, greenery and holiday flowers available. Cider and cookies will be served.

Klugman cancels east Portland appearance

We received a note today from James Barta regarding actor and author Jack Klugman’s scheduled appearance today at Fir Ridge High School in Mid-county. Klugman was appearing in support of Democrat Jefferson Smith and his candidacy for the vacant seat in House District 47, Jeff Merkley’s seat.

Here it is:

Jack Klugman will be unable to attend Monday night’s event with Jefferson Smith due to a medical emergency. However Jack’s son Adam Klugman will be showing outtakes from “The Odd Couple”. Several autographed copies of Jack Klugman’s book Tony and Me will be auctioned to benefit the Serendipity Center and SnowCap Community Charities.
