Parkrose Little League represented by Oregon State Beavers Gunderson and Kunz at College Baseball World Series

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Parkrose represented by Gunderson and Kunz at NCAA Baseball College World Series held every year in Omaha, Nebraska.

It’s official, the Oregon State University baseball team has won its first national title the second national championship in school history.

Parkrose in Mid-Multnomah County is represented on the winning squad by pitchers Kevin Gunderson and Eddie Kunz. Growing up in Parkrose and playing for Parkrose Little League, Kunz and Gunderson went to different high schools— Kunz to Parkrose High School and Gunderson enrolling at Central Catholic High School in Southeast Portland only to be reunited as teammates at Oregon State.
Congratulations to Oregon State, its baseball program and its players and coaches who worked very hard to reach the pinnacle of college baseball.

Gunderson is off to the major leagues, opening up the competition for the closer spot which Kunz is expected to ably fill next season.
Here’s more information about the pair from last year’s July 2005 Mid-county Memo.

Parkrose Educational Foundation auction a huge success

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Just over 150 people spent an average of $230 apiece making the third annual Parkrose Educational Foundation auction and dinner a smashing success. The yearly auction and dinner, held in May, grossed over $35,000.

This year’s event, for the first time not held at the high school in east Portland, was held at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel. Another first, it was a 21 and over event. And it was highly successful.

June 2006 correction

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

The Mid-county Memo strives to be accurate, thorough and complete in its coverage and corrects significant errors of fact. If you find an error in the Memo, please call 503-287-8904 or e-mail our editor, Darlene Vinson, at: editor@midcountymemo.com.

The June 2006 feature story about Helensview School, an alternative school operated by the Multnomah Education Service District, in east Portland, stated an incorrect date for its opening at the former Sumner Elementary school in the Parkrose School District.

MESD began this type of “alternative school in 1977 ” at a different location. In 1994 MESD’s alternative school was moved to the vacant Sumner Elementary building at 8678 N.E. Sumner St. in 1995 and renamed Helensview School.

We regret the error.
