Tee off for charity Russell Elementary School Parent Teacher Volunteer (PTV) organization is sponsoring the 1st Annual Russell Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 8 a.m. This event, held at Colwood National Golf Club, 7313 N.E. Columbia Blvd., will be a four-person scramble, modified shot gun start. Prizes will be awarded for KPs, long drives, first, second, and third place. There will also be raffle tickets available for other great prizes. Space is limited to 25 teams, so now is the time to get signed up! Entry fee is $65 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart and lunch following the tournament. All proceeds from the tournament will go to an after school reading program called The Creative Reading Experience, where reading and art come together to make reading fun and rewarding. You can also support this program by sponsoring a hole. For only $100, sponsorship includes a sign at the tee area with your name or business. You can also donate an item for the raffle. Whether you choose to donate gift certificates, products or services, all contributions are appreciated and fully tax-deductible. Learn something new A variety of classes are offered this month at the Gregory Heights Library, 7921 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Library hours are Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed Monday. Children six and under and their adults are invited to stop by the library for a short, daily program of fun stories. This program is held Tuesday through Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Tiny Tots: Storytimes for children aged 1 to 2 years with adult will be held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Preschool Storytime: Storytimes for children aged 3 to 6 years with adult will be held every Friday at 11 a.m. Family Storytime: Children six and under and their parents are invited to Family Storytime on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Butterfly Mask: Artist Shanon Schollian works with kids of all ages to create beautiful paper butterfly masks on Saturday, March 29 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Young Readers Club: All readers ten and older are invited to join for discussion, fun and friends on Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Please call the library for the book title. Pre-registration is required for free tax help, held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cyber Sundays: One-on-one computer help is available at Gregory Heights on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Specially trained volunteers will teach you how to use the online catalog, search the Internet, play educational computer games with your kids and discover what a mouse can do. Cyber Seniors Computer Classes: This series of three classes is designed for seniors who are interested in learning the very basics of how to use a computer. Learn to use a mouse, search the Internet, and send and receive e-mail. Each session will consist of one hour of instruction and one hour of practice. Participants must pre-register and attend all three classes, held on Tuesday, March 4, Tuesday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 18, all at 9 a.m. Gregory Heights Computer Lab: Library staff help beginners practice computer basics in the computer lab at Gregory Heights. Pre-registration required for the classes, which will be 9 to 10 a.m. Classes will be Saturday, March 8, Saturday, March 15, Saturday, March 22 and Saturday, March 29. Book Discussion Group: Enjoy time spent with others and a good book by joining this group. For the meeting on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m., read Personal History by Katherine Graham. Midland offers free classes The Midland branch of the Multnomah County Library, located at 805 S.E. 122nd Ave., offers many free activities for adults and families. Library hours are: Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Monday. In March, weekly events include computer and Internet classes and story times. Pre-registration is required for all classes. There will also be many special events. Get your passport on Thursday, March 27 at 2 p.m. The Planets: Amy Gray of Zing Productions presents a multimedia show of lights and sounds. Shadow puppets and laser effects add to the fun and magic on a journey from Earth to the farthest reaches of space on Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Reading to the Dogs: Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to therapy dogs. The dogs and handlers are from the Dove Lewis Animal Assisted Therapy Program. Pre-registration is required for this class, with sessions on Thursday, March 13 at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 15 at 3 p.m., and Thursday, March 27 at 6 p.m. All sessions run for an hour and a half.
