NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETINGS
Following is a list of area neighborhood meetings as supplied by the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. Information is subject to change. Check with your local association or the East Portland Neighborhood Office at 503-823-4550 if you have questions.

The Neighborhood Emergency Team meeting is Monday, June 1 at 6 p.m. at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 10501 S.E. Market St.

The East Precinct Citizen’s Advisory Committee meeting is Tuesday, June 2 at 6 p.m. in the East Precinct Community Room, 737 S.E. 106th Ave.

The East Portland Neighborhood Organization meeting is Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at EPNO, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

The East Portland Parks Coalition meeting is Thursday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Portland Neighborhood Office, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

The Mill Park Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Monday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Midland Library, 805 S.E. 122nd Ave.

The Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Monday, June 8 at 7 p.m. at Powellhurst Baptist Church, 3435 S.E. 112th Ave. The PGNA will host a series of meetings on Saturday, June 20 in the Human Solutions Community Room, 12350 S.E. Powell Blvd. The Greening of Powellhurst-Gilbert will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Powellhurst-Gilbert Outreach and Membership Committee will meet at 11:30 a.m. and the Powellhurst-Gilbert Public Safety Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m.

The Centennial Community Association general membership will meet on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Harold Oliver Intermediate School, 15840 S.E. Taylor St., Room 65.

The East Portland Land Use Committee will meet on Wednesday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Portland Neighborhood Office, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

The Hazelwood Neighborhood Association will meet on Monday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Portland Neighborhood Office, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

The Argay Neighborhood Association meeting is Tuesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Fire Station #2, 4800 N.E. 122nd Ave.

The Parkrose Neighborhood Association will meet on Tuesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Faithful Savior Ministries, 11100 N.E. Skidmore St.

The Parkrose Heights Association of Neighbors board will meet on Tuesday, June 16. A general membership meeting is set for Tuesday, June 23. Marcia Dennis of the City of Portland Graffiti Abatement program will be the guest speaker. Heights neighbors are encouraged to attend board meetings as well as general membership meetings to raise concerns regarding livability and other neighborhood issues.

Both meetings are at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N.E. Knott St., and begin at 7 p.m.

The Russell Neighborhood Association has scheduled a meeting on Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at Western States Chiropractic College, Hampton Hall, 2900 N.E. 132nd Ave.

Friends of Powell Butte will meet on Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at the caretaker’s house, Southeast 161st Avenue and Powell Boulevard.

The Glenfair Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at Glenfair Elementary, Faculty Lounge, 15300 N.E. Glisan St.

The Partners for a Safe and Livable East Portland meeting is Monday, June 29 at 6 p.m. in the East Portland Neighborhood Office, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

Book Babies: Storytime for children newborn to 12 months with adult. Thursdays from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Toddler Storytime: Storytime for children 24 to 36 months with adult. Fridays from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Preschool Storytime: Storytime for children 3 to 6 years with adult. Fridays from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Balloon Fairy Workshop: Choose from balloons of various shapes, colors and sizes to create your own balloon hat. Monday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Presto the Magician: Intrigue and wonder await. Presto the Magician brings magic, comedy and lots of audience participation to your library. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Monday, June 29 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Teen Lounge and Homework Center: Use library computers, get homework help, or just do your homework and listen to music. For teens in grades 6-12. Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., except June 11.

Teen Council: Meet new friends, learn new skills, help the library, eat snacks and have fun. Teen Council members work with library staff to make the library teen-friendly. Wednesday, June 10 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Teen Lounge Unplugged -- Dance Dance Revolution: The second Thursday of the month is DDR Day. Anyone in grades 6-12 is invited to jump around like a fool to DDR. Or just hang out and eat snacks. Thursday, June 11 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Mad Science -- Spin, Pop, Boom: How do you know that a chemical reaction has occurred? Start with a change of color in a chemically challenging magic trick. Move on to an assortment of experiments featuring both chemical and physical changes. Watch in awe as the mad scientist creates numerous versions of erupting science. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Saturday, June 20 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Tuesday Arts & Crafts: Come after school and go home with a new creation. Recommended for kids 8 to 12 years. Made possible by the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Children's Art Programs Endowed Fund of the Library Foundation.
Tuesday, June 30 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Language Exchange: Engage in conversation with native English speakers who want to practice their Spanish and with native Spanish speakers who want to practice their English. There will be time for conversation in both languages. Saturdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Recycled Wool Coffee Cup and Mug Cozies: Turn old sweater pieces into a sleeve for disposable paper coffee cups and a cozy for mugs. Both cute and practical, the cozies will keep your hot drinks hot, and keep your hands from burning from while looking much better than throwaway cardboard sleeves. You'll use some basic hand-sewing and embroidery to put together and decorate the sleeves, and can even add appliqué decorations if you want. Instruction by Lee Meredith of www.leethal.net. Computer Lab: Lab assistants are available to help beginners practice their computer skills. Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m.

Cyber Seniors Computer Classes: This series of classes is for seniors who want to learn how to use a computer. Learn to use a mouse, search the Internet, and send and receive e-mail. Each session will consist of one hour of instruction and one hour of practice. You must register and attend all three sessions. Register online, in the library or by calling 503-988-5234. Reading Magic -- How Reading Aloud to Babies and Young Children Helps Them Get Ready for Reading and School Success: It's never too early to start reading and sharing books with your little ones. Ten Steps to Starting a Business: This seminar covers basic small business start-up information in 10 steps. The presentation is designed for individuals in the thinking stage of starting a business. Included in this seminar is an overview of all the basic requirements, including name registry, business structures and licensing requirements. Small business resources are highlighted with emphasis on business planning tools, business resources, market research and business planning. Presented by the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Monday, June 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
