NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETINGS
Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Monday, June 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Powellhurst Baptist Church, 3435 S.E. 112th Ave.
Centennial Community Association general membership will meet on Tuesday, June 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold Oliver Intermediate School, 15840 S.E. Taylor St., Room 65.

Wilkes Community Group general membership will meet on Tuesday, June 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Teamster's Complex, Joe Edgar Hall, 1850 N.E. 162nd Ave.

Hazelwood Neighborhood Association board will meet on Monday, June 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the East Portland Neighborhood Office, 1017 N.E. 117th Ave.

Argay Neighborhood Association board will meet on Tuesday, June 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fire Station #2, 4800 N.E. 122nd Ave.

Mill Park Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Tuesday, June 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Midland Library, 805 S.E. 122nd Ave.

Parkrose Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Tuesday, June 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Faithful Savior Ministries, 11100 N.E. Skidmore St.

Board members of Parkrose Heights Association of Neighbors will meet on Tuesday, June 17. A general membership meeting is set for Tuesday, June 24. Guest speakers will be Multnomah County Commissioner Jeff Cogan and Leeanne Ferguson of Safe Routes to School. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N.E. Knott St., and are open to all neighborhood residents.

Russell Neighborhood Association general membership will meet on Thursday, June 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Western States Chiropractic College, 2900 N.E. 132nd Ave.

Book Babies: Storytime for children newborn to 12 months with adult. Thursdays beginning June 19 from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Toddler Storytime: Storytime for children 24 to 36 months with adult. Fridays beginning June 20 from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Little Bugs, Big World: Mr. S, the sneaky spider, wants to catch that little reading bug. A little ladybug meets a bookworm and finds out about the big world out there, so they decide to travel the world and learn new languages. They visit bugs from all sorts of countries and find out that it's not such a big world after all. But will they get caught in the webs of deceit by that spider Mr. S? Or will the adventure lead them back home safely? Find out in this thrilling show by Dragon Theater Puppets. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Teen Lounge and Homework Center: Use library computers, get homework help or just do your homework and listen to music. For teens in grades 6-12. Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., except June 12.

Teen Lounge Unplugged -- Dance Dance Revolution: The second Thursday of the month is DDR Day. Anyone in grades 6-12 is invited to jump around like a fool to DDR. Compete with a friend or just try it out yourself. No experience necessary. Or just hang out and eat snacks. Bring your friends. Thursday, June 12 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Screen Print a Tee Shirt or Banner: Screen print one of our designs; then embellish it to make it unique. Shirts and banner fabric will be provided, or you can bring your own 100% cotton shirt. For teens in grades 6-12. Made possible by the Library Foundation. Friday, June 20 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Tuesday Arts and Crafts: Drop in for arts and crafts and take home a new creation. Tuesday, June 24 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Language Exchange: Engage in conversation with native English speakers who want to practice their Spanish and with native Spanish speakers who want to practice their English. There will be time for conversation in both languages. Saturdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Recycled Necktie Crafts: Sister Diane from the Church of Craft will show you how to use a thrift-store necktie to make up to three different projects: an eyeglass case, a flower pin and a cuff bracelet. You'll do a little cutting and hand sewing, and voilà! Neckties will be supplied. Made possible by the Library Foundation. Registration is required. Pageturners: Engage in stimulating conversation about books, exchange perspectives about characters and plot, and get to know your neighbors. Computer Lab: Lab assistants are available to help beginners practice their computer skills. Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m.

TechnoHosts: Volunteers help you search the Web, use e-mail and look up materials with the library's online catalog. Assistance in Vietnamese is available. Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Rock Out with Recess Monkey: Recess Monkey is the stage name for three Seattle elementary school teachers who like to rock out on stage as much as they do in their classrooms. This trio plays Beatlesque music with a high emphasis on wordplay and celebrating childhood. Kids and their parents will equally enjoy this music. As heard on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition," and seen in Cookie, Grammy.com, FamilyFun, School Library Journal and more. Recess Monkey wants to rock you. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Thursday, June 19 from noon to 12:45 p.m.

Get the Reading Bug: Crawl or buzz your way to the library and join Anne-Louise as she sings and tells stories that once again prove the link between singing, storytelling and childhood literacy. Not only that, it's a lot of fun to sing and tell stories about the thousands of bugs that are buzzing, crawling or flying along with us on the planet. So many different shapes, colors, sizes and sounds to entertain us. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Thursday, June 26 from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Read to the Dogs SM: Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog from the DoveLewis Animal Assisted Therapy and Education Program. Registration is required. Call 503-988-5392.
