The David Douglas School District plans changes to the school calendar to conform to state requirements and to begin returning instruction time lost during January snow and ice storms.

Nine days were lost. The district intends to recapture instruction time within the current school calendar without having to add days to the end of the school year. More snow days this winter could interfere with that plan. District administration recommends that families not plan activities for the first few days of summer break until plans are solidified.

Some immediate changes have been made to February school calendars. More changes are anticipated for the balance of the school year.

All elementary schools in the district will be in session Friday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 17. These days were originally non-school days for students, but they are now full instructional days.

All middle school students will now have full instructional days Friday, Feb. 17 and Friday, Feb. 24. Feb. 17 was originally a non-school day, while Feb. 24 was originally scheduled as an early release day, but they are now full school days.

At David Douglas High, Friday, Feb. 17 is now an instructional day for students. Feb. 17 was originally a non-school day for students, but it is now an early-release instructional day for students. Students will be released at 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 17.

In addition, late-start Wednesdays have been cancelled for Feb. 1, 8 and 15. School will start at 7:50 a.m. on those dates. The late-start Wednesday for Feb. 22 remains as scheduled. Going forward, the intent is to cancel all but one late-start Wednesday each month. Plan for the last Wednesday of each month to remain a late-start Wednesday, with all others being cancelled.

Fir Ridge Campus students will now have Friday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 17 as full instructional days. The Feb. 3 work day has been moved to Friday, Feb. 10 in order to extend the quarter. This means that Feb. 10 is now a non-school day for students. Feb. 8 is no longer an early release day.

Friday, Feb. 17 will now be a full instructional day for Community Transition Program students. This day was originally a non-school day for students, but it is now a school day.

In addition, the following early release days have been cancelled: Feb. 1, 8 and 15. Students will be released at 2:15 p.m. on those dates. The early release for Feb. 22 remains as scheduled. Going forward, the intent is to cancel all but one early release Wednesday each month. Plan on the last Wednesday of each month to remain an early release day, with all others being cancelled.

If you have questions regarding schedule changes, contact your local school.
